Project | Extension and renovation of St Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral | Alexandria, Egypt | |
Overview | The project aimed to double the size of the historical cathedral which stands on the site of the church founded by St. Mark the Evangelist in AD 60. The extension design was done in harmony with the former Greek style of existing cathedral. All utilized ornaments and decoration were copied, reformed in high accuracy and reused in the extension. Additional matching ornaments and details were designed to match the new conditions. The six historical marble pillars and façade clock were transferred to the new western entrance of the church. |
